RAGBRAI 2022
As we continue to plan and prepare for RAGBRAI® on July 29th, West Union is calling for everyone’s help in making this a positive and successful event. We have created a Facebook page, RAGBRAI® West Union, to keep everyone updated on how this progress is unfolding. We are also looking for additional volunteers. Suppose you, your organization, or anyone you know is interested. In that case, volunteer forms can be found online, at the West Union Main Street Chamber office, or with the head of our Volunteer Committee, Leroy Soppe.

Education Class
April’s educational class will be titled, “Retirement Plans for Business”. It will be hosted at the Chamber on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Our very own Jason Knox, the owner of Knox Financial, will be teaching this class.
“As a business owner, you work hard to grow your business. Securing your future doesn’t end at growing your customer base and getting sales. Choosing a retirement package that best fits your situation, without negatively impacting future growth and financial stability may seem challenging.
Attend the Retirement Plans For Business Education Session and quickly learn about the retirement plan options available for business.
A retirement plan may help the business owner(s), and also serve as a way to attract and retain employees. Employees frequently cite retirement plans as one of the most important reasons to start a new job or to stay at their present employer. In the present, only 17% of employers with 10 employees or less offer such plans, while 71% of larger employees typically offer plans. Our session will cover the ways for businesses of all sizes to help their employees.
At this session, we provide an overview of the multiple retirement plans available for business, including IRA and Roth IRA, SIMPLE plans, 401(k) for individuals and 401(k) for those with employees, SEPs, cash balance plans, plans for non-profits and more. Tax benefits, tax credits, ways to reduce income taxes, pitfalls to avoid, and a broad overview of plans will be covered. We make the complex world of retirement plans understandable. This session will focus on various types of retirement plans and not specific investment products or services.”

Meet Our Board
Deb Thies, owner of Moonlight Stitching & Sister’s Retreat
“I’ve been a resident of West Union since 2000; a business owner since 2010. When I learned of the Main Street Project - I heard in my head ‘If you build it, they will come.’ My love of quilting and retreating was the foundation of this business - to provide the best environment for others with the same passion.
Fast forward to 2021 - having muscled through COVID, I decided to be more involved in the retail world in West Union. After working with Matthew Marsala, the new West Union Main Street Chamber Executive Director, to put on the West Union Block Party, I saw a similar passion and decided to join the West Union Main Street Chamber board.
I am a member of the Promotions Committee, and Economic Development Committee, as well as enhancing the various community events to showcase West Union.”
